REC Solar Awarded 9.1MW in New Federal and Municipal, Utility Projects REC Solar has been awarded six new federal projects, including five from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) and one from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Forest Service, as well as two utility projects. Building on REC Solar’s strong project pipeline, these government and utility systems will total 9.1MW. REC Solar will design and install five solar arrays on VA hospitals in California, Arizona and Florida, located on roof, ground or carport-mounted arrays and tailored to each location. The USDA Forest Service installation will be a ground-mounted system located in the greater Los Angeles, CA area. REC Solar will also construct a 1.1 MW ground-mounted array for a municipal utility in Hayward, CA, and a 1.21 MW array for interconnection to the Kauai Island Utility Cooperative (KIUC) grid in Kapaa, HI. The projects will be completed by December 2011. “This latest pipeline of government contracts demonstrates that REC Solar has solidified itself as the solar provider federal agencies and municipal utilities count on,” said REC Solar CEO Angiolo Laviziano. “With more than 20 MW awarded by government agencies to date, we have proven that REC Solar consistently exceeds the most stringent standards and expectations.” Government agencies are increasingly dedicating funds and resources to solar projects to combat volatile energy prices from conventional energy sources and achieve ambitious energy efficiency goals. For instance, the Madera Waste Water Treatment Plant in Madera, CA, will offset 62 percent of its energy needs using 94 dual-axis system trackers, along with 5,264 REC Group solar panels. |
